This Sharp Microwave is known for its great performing “skills”. It has a usable 0.8cf capacity and its heating ability is impressive. Another very important feature of it is that it (normally) heats the food very evenly which is a rare fact among microwave ovens. Its “smart” turntable works on automatic and shifts between clockwise and counter-clockwise movements by itself. It also comes with the classic built-in light bulb which shines every time the door is openned or when the Sharp Microwave is functioning. The heating capacity is up to 1100W which, coincidently or not, is the adviced power to use on most microwave food items.
It is important to note that Sharp was one of the first companies to step-up, discuss and improve its microwave saftey features. Therefore they are leaders in microwave safety around the globe. It makes sense, then, to assume that even being built in Thailand, Hong Kong or China, this R-308K Sharps Microwave is as safe as a microwave can be. There are some complaints about it’s “loud” door. What isn’t mentioned is that this is no design flaw but a safety measure to prevent radiation to escape unwillingly (of course). It’s important to pay attention to what it really matters, safety over minor comfort at this point.
Its LCD display has a non-stop green background light. Quite a usefull feature for all of those who tend to use their microwaves as clocks around the kitchen. Besides that it also has a timer funntion with a limit of 99 minutes. Also in the display you can find a “minute plus” button, very useful for the microwave daily users. There is a default sound for the keytouch which might or might not please some people. Fact is that you have the option of turning it off. A funny option is the “safe mode”run. Using that option you can protect children from pressing buttons and changing cooking settings by accident (or not!).
There are though some extensive criticism towards the user-friendliness of its buttons and pannel. Although working great, it is not an easy pannel to use. That is explained by the fact that almost all keys look exactly the same and, until you are very used to pressing them, you need to take your time to find the right spots. Even the start/stop button is not easily distinguished. It is actually not understandable why companies don’t pay too much attention to the design and usabilty of some appliances. It is a vital feature.
All-in-all it is a very recommendable microwave with powerful features and performance. Has its downs, but who hasn’t?
